   The Fated Ones

   By: Roselin Cano

From the moment she was born, she was fated to be the wife of the goblin. As time went on, her fate was fulfilled, and she became the goblin’s wife. One day, she woke up next to her loving husband, she made a perfect breakfast, went to her job on time, her presentation went perfectly, and she was now driving home. She was at an intersection, and it was a red light. So, she waited, just having to turn left and drive up the hill to go home. But a truck was coming down, there was no driver, and right across the street was a van of kids. She knew those children were fated to die due to the truck. How could their destiny change when it’s already planned out? A sacrifice. She knew if she moved forward, she would die, but those kids would live. She thinks back, everything from this morning went so perfectly, every second aligned so that she could be here at this exact moment. Without thinking, she went forward, and those children’s fates had changed. She was fated to die at this moment.

That was the last episode of the show, Guardian: The Lonely and Great God. Lilith was rewatching the show for the 6th time and always wondered what her fate was. She didn’t want to die young and hate not knowing how she going to die. But she found out three days ago and hasn’t left her house, she knew she was safe at home, or at least she thought.

“Have you heard that the neighbor’s son disappeared”? Say, Ms. Sors, interrupting her thought.

Lilith just stayed quiet as she sat on her couch in the living room, with the TV right in front of her, and the window to her right, looking right across into the neighbor’s house. She had black straight hair, fair skin, and light hazel eyes. Everyone said both Ms.Sors and Lilith looked so much alike, but Lilith just couldn’t see it; her mom’s hair was curly instead, and she had wrinkles all over her face, and she felt the opposite, her mother had a cheerier personality, and Lilith just always had a blank face, she try to be lively like her mom but she just couldn’t. In a way, Lilith, guess die young wasn’t so bad, at least she won’t get wrinkles.

“It’s a shame, he’s just a little boy, he was dropped off at the bus stop and just had to walk two blocks, but he never made it home.”

“What was his name?”

“Light,”    [Light Lilith says as her mom speaks]. He was a thin boy with blond hair and blue eyes. He was a good kid; he always listened to his parents and was known as the “perfect kid” in our neighborhood.

The show really stuck to Lilith so much that she made sure that her days never went perfectly, always and somehow ruining her day, getting her parent mad, getting in trouble in school, causing problems. Because it brought her ease knowing she was not going to die yet. But she also knew how to figure out what her fate was,

“A sacrifice,” she whispers.

“Sorry, what was that you said, love?”

“Nothing, Mom. Just that I’m hoping that he is found soon.”

If she bonds by a sacrifice, a covenant, and a wish, then she no longer needs to worry about her fate and dying because she would know what would come in the future, so she can try and change her future. A kid is purer than an adult. They are clean and fruitful. So, Lilith had observed and followed Light and his family for a whole month, and she was finally able to pick up on their routine. So, she knew Wednesday was the only day that Light would take the bus to school and come back. So three days ago, on Wednesday, Lilith was waiting at that bus stop…

“Hey Light, how are you? Did you have a fun day at school?” Lilith was trying to come off as warm and comfortable as Light got off the bus.

“Yeah,” Light was a shy kid, but also friendly, which was why he was perfect.

“Umm, your mom told me to pick you up since she’s not home right now. Do you wanna go to the park or do something fun meanwhile?” Lilith knew he was going to say yes; they had known each other since he was born.

“Yeah, sure, we can go to the park, but can we get ice cream?”

“YEAH! We can!” Lilith got a bit too excited.

They went to the park and ate ice cream, and an hour had passed, and now they were just on the swings.

“Um, we should head back. My mom is probably home already, and I’m tired.”

“Yeah, we should.” [No, not yet think Lilith think] “Omg did you just see that in the wood?”

“Huh, see what!” Light got excited but was also scared.

“It was a bunny, omg it’s right there, come look.”

Lilith ran into the woods… Light just stood there, slightly scared, the trees were so tall and the wind was pushing the trees so much that he thought a branch just might break.

“Wait for me then! Don’t leave me behind.” Light ran behind Lilith, but couldn’t find her. “Lilith..”

Lilith came from behind and covered Light’s mouth.

“Shh, don’t worry, it will all be over soon.” Lilith was smiling while holding her hand to Light’s mouth.

Light was soon asleep. And that evening, Lilith had murdered Light, but it’s like the wood knew what Lilith was doing because it became quiet, there was no animal, no wind, the tree stayed still and sacrificed its soul, for in return, she would know her fate. Light’s body was left deep in the wood, and it would never be found. And, she found out that she would be killed in three days.

“Lilith… helloo LILITH,” yells Ms. Sors

“Huh. What happened?” Lilith snap out

“Go throw out the trash, girl.”

“Alright,” said Lilith, annoyedly.

Although she didn’t want to her it was right in front of her home, what could happen. So, Lilith grabbed the trash and walked out to the trash can near the mailbox. Only if she was paying attention would she have noticed the car coming fast behind her. The next thing Lilith only heard ring in her ear, and her mother running out of the house, mouthing something. This was her fate… and she couldn’t change it.
